66038 HATIORA (RHIPSALIS) SALICORNIOIDES CAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 3.00 "Drunkard's Dream" or "Dancing Bones" Epiphytic Rhipsalis cousin with stiftly arching thickly-branched sprays of bottle-shaped branchlets tipped with yellow flowers fading to salmon; soon makes a wonderful windowsill potplant (or with time, a stunning hanging basket subject) with very regularly dividing bone shaped stem section forming a very symetrical outline. 65442 HAWTHORIA MIDORINOSONO [HYB] LIL HP CGH PRICE: $ 4.75 Rare cultivar with a wide H. cuspidata habit distinguished by random blotches and streaks of white on the fleshy leaves often extending into the veined windows. Very flashy, very popular for its unique form of splendid variegation: and every flat juicy rosette is variegated--we have never observed a reversion to solid green or to solid albino. Very shallow roots--plant accordingly.

65378 HAWORTHIA PYGMAEA [HORT] LIL HP TGH PRICE: $ 8.00 Small rosettes with rough crystaline windowed leavaes. We have been informed that this is sometimes offered as retusa acuminata in Europe--nomenclature uncertain. This is the most petite of any in our collection; typically sent as divisions in dry moss so it will travel safely to you. If you want a large plant, please do not order this as it will never be more than microcopic.

65413 HAWORTHIA UBOMBOENSIS LIL PRICE: $ 6.50 New for Fall 2010. "False Tillandsia" Has the stoloniferous character and stiff open rosette of H. limifolia (under which it has been classified); however the pale green smooth leaves lack any ridging. Handsome unique species turning liliac in bright light. Stoloniferous habit makes this popular in mossed topiary and in mossed succulent wreaths as offsets pop out randomly after burrowing below.

We have seen this grown also as a very full hanging basket subject when it requires perfect drainage; far happier on moss as forms only surface roots. Flowers are small, but the tearleaf form with mottled silver breaking through on the succulent leaf is stunning--any lizare would be proud to have this patina on its scales.....as can be difficult to establish because of extremely shallow roots, we always try to send this in a pot.

The Beautiful and Very Floriferous Hoya lacunosa

60094 HOYA LACUNOSA ASC HP TGH PRICE: $ 8.75 Tassel-like pendant umbels of fuzzy lemon-greenish white flowers with lemon centers and soft fragrance (a very clean aroma) perfectly match the dwarf-statured quilted leaves; the name derives form the lacunose leaf surface. That is, the surface of the leaf is cupped or depressed between the veins. Malaysian native beautifully displayed in small baskets to present the dangling scented flower clusters easily or trained on a moss topiary. Certainly the least challenging small statured cascading species to easily bloom as a houseplant. If not currently in pots, easily shipped as an unrooted cutting in moss.

58389 HOYA LACUNOSA SNOW PEAKS ASC HP TGH PRICE: $ 10.00 This is the variegated form of the great Hoya listed above. Tassel-like pendant umbels of fuzzy lemon-greenish white flowers with lemon centers and soft fragrance appropriate to the dwarf-statured quilted leaves. Malaysian native. Certainly among the least challenging small statured cascading species with variegate foliage. Sent as a mossed unrooted cutting.

Unique habit--but difficult--grow in a very shallow pot of epiphytic mix and never allow any exposure to chill--if you place this near a misting system, it will thrive. Thick wide cordovan brown glossy leaves, thick jade like with and showy paleer veins dramaticlly raised, all tightly held on pale rope like vining stems; open clusters of numerous fragrant rather distinctive white waxy blossoms with quite visibly curled petals lemony at center. 60104 HOYA [CENTROSTEMMA] MULTIFLORA ASC HP TGH PRICE: $ 10.00 leaves pubescent green on upright arching stems tipped with explosions of straw-ivory blossoms tipped tan, with non-curving corollas. In the general horticultural trade this shrubby vine is known as Hoya "Shooting Stars"--be careful avoid chill or it will immediately defoliate (and unfortunately be shooting leaves as well), even though it quickly recovers and produces new foliage. 60164 HUERNIA SCHNEIDERIANA ASC TGH HP PRICE: $ 3.50 Chocolate violet flowers with cinnamon mahogany tones outside the bells produced in clusters as the base of the glossy upright (then tumbling) succulent short columnar stems ribbed with rows of soft "teeth." Easily grown cousin of the Stapelias, flourishing under the same growing conditions--and importantly, the most easily bloomed of any of the many species we have trialed over the years. An important plant to have for those kids among you with at least one prudish great-aunt who can be gently encouraged to read the plant tag aloud.

Easy, but remember that this "Guatemalan Rhubarb" needs a bit of a mid-winter rest to more easily initiate the next season's flower buds.
